Heat pumps are heating devices that are known for their efficient, ecological and energy-saving operation, as well as many years of service life. Heat pumps can work flawlessly for a very long period of time, providing home heating, domestic hot water heating, as well as the possibility of cooling rooms. How many years can a heat pump work without losing performance? What factors influence its performance? How can the heat pump life be extended? See the article for answers to all questions.

Heat pump - an ecological solution for the home

A heat pump is a heating device that uses renewable resources from the environment. It consumes thermal energy accumulated in the ground, water or in the air (i.e. from the lower heat source) and directs it to the upper heat source, which is the heating system (i.e. radiators or plane heating, including underfloor heating). The heat pump does not generate heat on its own, but only transports it. Its work is also dependent on electricity, but supplied in a small amount, because 75% of the device's operation is based on energy from natural sources.

The main task of the heat pump is to ensure the heating of the building, but the heat pump can also be used to heat domestic hot water. A large part of the heat pumps also has a room cooling function, so it can be used as a replacement for air conditioning.

Heating the house with a heat pump is also ecological, as the heat pump uses renewable energy sources. During operation, it also does not emit harmful substances, including carbon dioxide. It is an environmentally friendly solution.

A lot of good can be written about heat pumps - they are safe, energy-saving and convenient to use. However, the interest in the heat pump is mainly due to the low heating costs, which contributes to the development of savings. These are currently the cheapest heating systems in operation. Although it is necessary to incur considerable expenses on the investment, it pays off within a few years. The appropriate selection of a device for heat demand and the service life of a heat pump is of great importance for the profitability of the investment - the longer it is effective, the higher the savings compared to other heating methods can be obtained.

How many years does the heat pump last?

The technology used in heat pumps allows for their many years of and reliable operation. Choosing a high-quality device and carrying out annual inspections is a guarantee that the heat pump will provide heat in the building for a long time. How many years can a heat pump work?

The warranty offered by manufacturers for the devices in their assortment is usually 25 years. Therefore, you can count on so many years of failure-free operation of the heat pump. However, this is a minimum period - it is estimated that properly used and regularly serviced heat pumps can work for up to 35-50 years.

It is also worth noting that the life of the heat pump is tantamount to the life of the compressor, the operating time of which is determined in hours. This is usually around 100,000 hours. Taking into account the fact that the annual operating time of heat pumps is about 2000-3000 hours, the operation period of the heat pump can be estimated at 33 to even 50 years.

Heat pump service life - what influences it?

Several factors influence the performance and service life of the heat pump. These are:

  • The right choice of heat pump power - too low power results in a quick compressor wear and thus a shorter operating period,
  • Correct installation of the heat pump - improper installation of the device will translate into its shorter service life,
  • The upper heat source is also important for the economical operation of the heat pump - the heating system should be tight and ventilated,
  • The service life of the heat pump is influenced by its appropriate service, which will regularly extend the operation time of the heat pump.

How to take care of the heat pump so that it lasts as long as possible?

The service life of the heat pump is approximately 25-35 years. The period of its operation depends to a large extent on the way it is used. What should you take care of to extend the life of the heat pump as much as possible?

First of all, regular maintenance and service are of great importance. They translate into failure-free operation of the heat pump, maintaining it in good condition, maintaining efficiency and extending the service life. It is worth taking care of annual inspections, as is the case with other heating systems.

Having an air heat pump, it is also good to take care of regular cleaning of devices, both during annual inspections carried out by professional service technicians and by the users of heat pumps themselves. Remove any contaminants such as dust, dust or leaves from the air intake and the fan. They can impede air flow, increase the consumption of electricity by the pump, and thus shorten its service life.
